Sara Grover was born and raised in California, but after the age of 17, has lived in every time zone in the contiguous United States. She is a proud military spouse and mother of a special needs child. She is a tireless advocate for her child and gave up her teaching career to care for him full-time. The stigma and cruelty that come from people who do not understand and judge people like her son as “monsters” that should be “locked away”, inspired her to write Unknown Variant, a story of a dystopic future in which individuals with special needs and other genetic conditions are cast off to live lives of poverty and suffering.

A lover of nature, she enjoys walks in parks, along trails and on beaches. She has been to many National and state parks around the country, and even hiked the Grand Canyon from top to bottom. She loves all animals and will hit the brakes on her car for all of them. She currently has 3 cats and a backyard chicken flock, but in the past has also had rabbits, lizards, fish, a mouse, and even a pet squirrel. Her ultimate dream is to have a small, self-sustaining farm on a huge piece of land, or private island (way better), so that she can have all the roosters she wants and maybe even some mini goats and peacocks.

Other eclectic interest include geology (her original major in college before changing it to K-8 science education), rockhounding (searching for cool rocks, polishing them, and just having hundreds of pounds of rocks she hasn’t gotten to yet), foraging the woods for yummy treats, singing karaoke, and chasing down interesting weather and space phenomenon (aurora borealis, eclipses, comets, noctilucent clouds, etc.) to marvel at and photograph.
