INTERVIEW SUMMARY:
Subject PEOPLES was interviewed at his mining claim on Davis Creek regarding the homicide of Timothy CROCKETT, whose body was discovered upstream from PEOPLES’ claim. BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
PEOPLES stated he is originally from Parker County, Texas, west of Fort Worth. Subject served as Fort Worth Police Department officer following military service in Korea. Left FWPD due to alcohol-related performance issues. Has family connections to Texas Rangers. Came to Alaska seeking employment after working various mining and ranch jobs in Colorado.
MILITARY/LAW ENFORCEMENT HISTORY:
Subject served in Korean War with Army Rangers. Suffered frostbite injuries during withdrawal from North Korea. Was detained in Japan post-service for psychological evaluation. Claims to be stable but acknowledged drinking problems following return to civilian life. Terminated from Fort Worth PD due to alcohol abuse.
CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES:
PEOPLES arrived in Dawson, Yukon Territory in 1959 working on dredge operation. When equipment failed, moved to Chicken area seeking summer employment. Initially sought work with victim’s family mine (Crockett operation on Poker Creek) but was hired instead by Barnes outfit. Remained as winter caretaker and filed claim on current property when previous owner (ROSENBERG) abandoned it.
RELATIONSHIP TO VICTIM:

PEOPLES last observed CROCKETT departing family mine operation at season’s end, driving truck with trailer. Victim left ahead of other family members (AMY and DOUG CROCKETT remained until near dark). Subject watched departure from his position.
